Helpful Tip I got lost many times in Hanoi and several Hostels have similar names and met people that did not remember where they were staying so when you check in get a card from your hotel so you can get back if you forget .

Hostels If you want the most popular hostel in Hanoi that would be the New Hanoi Backpackers' hostel on Ma May they are not the cheapest but it is in the most active area with many clubs and bars around . Another place doing a great deal is Geckos bar they offer 50 % off their largest pizza and cheap drinks, price on drinks depends on the location, my favorite was on Ngõ Huyện street they have several locations in the old quarter . Map Link

Daytrip Head to Bat Trang Village a small village where you can learn to make pottery as well as buy ceramic glass cheap, when you exit the bus walk past the food stalls and take a left back around the corner there is a man that will teach you to make pottery and speaks English . To get there Take bus number 47 Long Bien bus stop . Bat Trang is the last stop
Cheap Drinks Head down Ngõ Huyện street towards the Hanoi Backpackers there are several places that offer big Tiger and Hanoi beer for happy hour which is usually all day for 10000 dong.

Another cheap place for beer is Tạ Hiện street close to Hàng Buồm an alley with several bars offering the local Beer Hia for 5000 dong , very active at night as it is close to the New Hanoi Backpacker Hostel .
